Pediatric Rehabilitation Fellowship

Children’s Hospital of Colorado pediatric rehabilitation fellowship is a two-year (July to July), ACGME accredited fellowship. Education through this program is diverse and all-encompassing. Some of the main patient populations our fellows are exposed to are cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, TBI, and SCI. With these patients comes ample exposure to tone management with phenol and botox injections. Children’s Hospital is the main pediatric trauma center for the surrounding area and thus patients at our facility come from all over Colorado and the surrounding states. With such a broad area served we see ample “bread and butter” diagnoses as well as many unique cases.

The (Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine) PRM fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado matches two pediatric rehabilitation fellows per year for the 2-year PRM fellowship and educations one Pediatric/PM&R combined resident each year of training. The fellows complete the required six months of inpatient pediatric rehabilitation over their two years. The rest of the time is split between pediatric rehabilitation outpatient clinics (including multidisciplinary clinics), consults, electives, and research. The majority of the clinical sites are on the Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Anschutz campus in Aurora, CO. Fellows spend some time at the Children’s Hospital Colorado North and South campuses, as well as outreach clinics outside of Denver, which requires driving off-campus occasionally. Clinical rotations are supervised by thirteen board-certified Pediatric rehabilitation faculty members and out program is growing and currently has plans to hire additional faculty. We also have two advanced practice providers who work with our fellows.

Children’s Hospital Colorado prides itself on helping our fellows find their niche within pediatric rehabilitation and helping them grow their strengths. Examples of interests from our current fellows include ultrasound, EMG, education and research. Within our research curriculum, there are two research months that are divided over a two-year curriculum based on the project needs of the fellow. For those interested in teaching, Children’s Hospital Colorado provides its fellows with ample teaching opportunities such as teaching medical students and PM&R residents, participating in a Medical Education elective course, or leading ultrasound or EMG workshops.

Denver is a city that offers ample activities to do in your spare time. The various neighborhoods of Denver offer a wide variety of arts and entertainment. Current activity favorites from our fellows include exploring the city’s restaurant and breweries, Red Rocks music concerts, hiking, fishing, and skiing. The nearest ski resort is 45 minutes away and in the summer months the mountains have great hiking trails.
