A Word from the President
Christina A. Richardson, DO
It was somehow appropriate that 11-1-11 was the 1st day of the new AOCPMR year since it began a year of 1sts for our college. We are currently in the early stages of implementing the 1st year of our new AOCPMR 3 Year Strategic Plan. This plan was developed after a member survey determined the four main areas of focus as crucial to our continued success: Education, Fiscal Health, Advocacy and Membership. Within each of these areas there will be many more 1st yet to come.
You will be seeing the development of a formalized 3-Day UltraSound Course conducted by the College, adding yet another educational program to our menu of yearly CME. We are also hoping to see the 1st Pain Medicine CAQ exam administered in the Fall of 2012 providing everything goes as planned.
Our new web site as well as other endeavors will also show the first of new revenue streams to contribute to our fiscal health and continued growth of the College. By stabilizing our fiscal health, we will also be able to add more support to our physicians in training and active membership.
In the area of Advocacy, we are introducing the new Practice Development Committee. This new committee will be made up of members familiar with issues related to office practice and management. As part of this committee’s outreach, we will be adding at least one lecture to every educational program focused on areas to support our members in maintaining a healthy and viable practice in the areas of finance and information.
This is also the 1st year that we will be implementing a Policies and Procedures Manual that designed to manage the governance and running of the College. This will be an adjunct to our current Bylaws and will greatly assist in day to day function of our rapidly growing College and its membership.
At the student and resident level, we are also seeing a year of firsts. This year we will also be adding to our student program at the Mid Year Meeting by expanding from a one day to a 1 ½ day program, an expansion that our students requested and have been vital in developing. Another 1st this year is that our ever expanding resident organization will be functioning under its own newly adopted Bylaws. Both the resident and students organizations continue to grow and have become vital parts or our continuing success.
Please continue to pay close attention to the new web page so that you can stay as up to date as possible on these and so many other 1sts coming to our great organization. Please take some time to explore our new and growing web page and if you haven’t already, please consider joining a committee and help us continue our amazing legacy of serving as the primary home for Osteopathic Physiatrists and related health care professionals.
