AOCPMR represents the osteopathic medical specialists who have dedicated their careers to the evaluation and management of the neuro-musculoskeletal system. Our expectations as physicians who focus on functional goals is attracting some of the most motivated and brightest medical residents and creating a tremendous interest among our medical students across the country. The AOCPMR has seen significant growth in membership over the last three years as a result of this groundswell of interest among these future practitioners. Educational programs, PM&R clubs on the majority of Osteopathic medical colleges and participation in the governing council of the AOCPMR, catering to this exciting trend, have been created and offered to culture and continue to attract this critically important group to this area of specialization.
Support for these programs and the growth and development of educational and infrastructure to this burgeoning field directed to the AOCPMR offers many benefits.
By contributing to educational programs through unrestricted educational grants we hope to see even more interest in the field from the current crop of talented Osteopathic medical students who in turn become residents and attending PMR clinicians influential in their local healthcare networks. Orienting young residents and practitioners to organized medicine through the AOCPMR is a unique and refreshing direction. We expect to see leadership and new energy rise to the highest levels of the AOA with this high profile group.
The organization has a mission statement that includes advocacy for those patients we serve as well as educating and supporting clinicians in these endeavors. The population we serve are largely those with physical impairments and pain these are areas that attract the attention of the public and media. There are countless narratives that are generated by our PMR patients that deserve the attention of the public media addressing the role of hope and courage in the face of adversity. Supporting AOCPMR with donations to our mission is inclusive of these special patient populations. Association of donations and recognized grants adds substantial humanity and social consciousness to any donating group or individual.
Donations to the AOCPMR may be earmarked for special projects to promote research among residents and attending physicians within the bounds of full disclosure. Sponsorship of students, residents, fellows and young practitioners to attend conferences and awards to highlight the accomplishments of PMR clinicians would be welcome and coordinated by our administration offices. Donations to the mission statements call for advocacy would likewise be greatly appreciated by those we serve.
